In 2021, after two years of growth, there was decline in the Spanish herbicide market, when its value decreased by -2.9% to $X. Overall, total exports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 31%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, herbicide imports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Belgium (X tons) constituted the largest herbicide supplier to Spain, with a 36% share of total imports. Moreover, herbicide imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), threefold.
