Maize Market Size in Spain

The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Portugal (X tons), the UK (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of maize exports from Spain, with a combined 60% share of total exports. Belgium, Turkey, Romania, Egypt and Morocco lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +57.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, maize export price increased by +53.1% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average export price increased by 73% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +39.4% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Brazil (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of maize imports to Spain, together accounting for 79% of total imports. Romania, the United States, Canada and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Canada (with a CAGR of +126.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Brazil ($X), Ukraine ($X) and France ($X) were the largest maize suppliers to Spain, with a combined 76% share of total imports. Romania, the United States, Canada and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.
Among the main suppliers, Canada, with a CAGR of +127.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average maize import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 25% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 29%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were the United States ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) and Canada ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
