Soft Drink Market Size in Spain

For the third consecutive year, the Spanish soft drink market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -92.6% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption showed a precipitous slump. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, soft drink production declined sharply to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production continues to indicate a sharp reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 72%. Soft drink production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, soft drink exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 25%. In value terms, the largest markets for soft drink exported from Spain were Portugal ($X), the UK ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 44% of total exports. Ghana, the Netherlands, Italy, Morocco, Senegal, Belgium, Cote d'Ivoire, Sweden, Mali and Equatorial Guinea lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +38.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average soft drink export price stood at $X per litre in 2021, declining by -8.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 11%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per litre. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In value terms, soft drink imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2021, Portugal (X litres) constituted the largest soft drink supplier to Spain, with a 35% share of total imports. Moreover, soft drink imports from Portugal exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X litres), twofold.
