In general, exports, however, saw a perceptible reduction. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, preserved swine meat exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a noticeable decline. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Portugal (X tons), France (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of preserved swine meat exports from Spain, with a combined 56% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Romania, Andorra, the UK, Cuba, Lebanon, Malta, Italy and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +31.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Portugal ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for preserved swine meat exported from Spain worldwide, with a combined 61% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Andorra, the UK, Cuba, Italy, Malta, Romania, Lebanon and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 22%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Romania, with a CAGR of +17.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average preserved swine meat export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 17% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+9.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of prepared or preserved hams and cuts of swine meat increased by 7.2% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 311%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, preserved swine meat imports fell slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 177%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Italy (X tons), Ireland (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of preserved swine meat imports to Spain, together accounting for 83% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ireland (with a CAGR of +21.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest preserved swine meat suppliers to Spain were Ireland ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 86% of total imports.
Ireland, with a CAGR of +22.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average preserved swine meat import price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -10.9% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, preserved swine meat import price increased by +69.9% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 42% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+12.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
