The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+3.3%).

For the fourth year in a row, Spain recorded growth in purchases abroad of rice bran, which increased by 35% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 52%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, rice bran imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Portugal (X tons), Italy (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of rice bran imports to Spain, with a combined 98% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +42.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Portugal ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X) were the largest rice bran suppliers to Spain, together comprising 90% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Portugal, with a CAGR of +50.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
