In general, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Algeria (X tons) was the main destination for enamels and glazes exports from Spain, accounting for a 24% share of total exports. In value terms, Algeria ($X) remains the key foreign market for vitrifiable enamels and glazes for ceramics, enamelling or glass exports from Spain, comprising 24% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with an 8.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 6.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Algeria stood at +18.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Morocco (+7.8% per year) and Italy (+5.9% per year).

In 2021, the average enamels and glazes export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 7.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Algeria (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Spain
In 2021, purchases abroad of vitrifiable enamels and glazes for ceramics, enamelling or glass was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 173% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, enamels and glazes imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild decrease. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) were the main suppliers of enamels and glazes imports to Spain, with a combined 76% share of total imports. France, Latvia and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Latvia (with a CAGR of +399.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vitrifiable enamels and glazes for ceramics, enamelling or glass to Spain, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 6.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany totaled +3.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-8.0% per year) and India (+172.4% per year).

In 2021, the average enamels and glazes import price amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 72%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.
