Wallpaper Market Size in Spain
The Spanish wallpaper market reduced dramatically to $X in 2021, which is down by -90.2% against the previous year. In general, consumption continues to indicate a dramatic decrease. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Wallpaper Production in Spain
In value terms, wallpaper production dropped markedly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a sharp shrinkage. After two years of decline, shipments abroad of wallpaper and wall coverings increased by 6.2% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wallpaper exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Portugal (X tons), France (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) were the main destinations of wallpaper exports from Spain, with a combined 46% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Colombia (with a CAGR of +46.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Portugal ($X), France ($X) and the UK ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for wallpaper exported from Spain worldwide, with a combined 39% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, Italy, Morocco, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil and Algeria, which together accounted for a further 26%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Colombia, with a CAGR of +45.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average wallpaper export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 73%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Algeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+30.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Spain
In 2021, approx. X tons of wallpaper and wall coverings were imported into Spain; surging by 10% compared with the year before. Overall, imports, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wallpaper imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
France (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of wallpaper imports to Spain, with a combined 65% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, the UK and China, which together accounted for a further 28%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +36.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Belgium ($X), Germany ($X) and the UK ($X) appeared to be the largest wallpaper suppliers to Spain, with a combined 51% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and China, which together accounted for a further 35%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Portugal, with a CAGR of +27.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average wallpaper import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 17% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +6.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 45%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+19.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
