As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

Exports from Sri Lanka
In 2022, overseas shipments of adhesive bandages increased by 73% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 20,009% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, adhesive bandage exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 12,922% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
India (X tons) was the main destination for adhesive bandage exports from Sri Lanka, with a 86% share of total exports. Moreover, adhesive bandage exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Maldives (X kg), tenfold. Seychelles (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to India amounted to +7.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Maldives (-15.5% per year) and Seychelles (+4.8% per year).
In value terms, India ($X) remains the key foreign market for adhesive bandages exports from Sri Lanka, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Maldives ($X), with a 4.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Seychelles, with a 1.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to India amounted to +7.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Maldives (-9.8% per year) and Seychelles (+11.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average adhesive bandage export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -16.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 112% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Seychelles ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Maldives (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Sri Lanka
In 2022, approx. X tons of adhesive bandages were imported into Sri Lanka; with a decrease of -11.8% compared with 2021 figures. In general, total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +116.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 146%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, adhesive bandage imports fell significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +28.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 57% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of adhesive bandage to Sri Lanka, accounting for a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, adhesive bandage imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), sixfold. Pakistan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from India stood at +4.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-6.4% per year) and Pakistan (+20.2% per year).
In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of adhesive bandages to Sri Lanka, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 9.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 7.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from India totaled +2.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+0.0% per year) and Thailand (+2.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average adhesive bandage import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -7.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, adhesive bandage import price decreased by -40.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 41% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
