Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium hydroxide imports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 126%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of aluminium hydroxide to Sri Lanka, with a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, aluminium hydroxide imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), twofold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +38.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+32.2% per year) and France (+7.4% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of aluminium hydroxide to Sri Lanka, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +40.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+11.1% per year) and India (+26.7% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
