Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The United Arab Emirates (X kg) was the main destination for apricot exports from Sri Lanka, accounting for a 97% share of total exports. It was followed by Maldives (X kg), with a 2.9% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United Arab Emirates amounted to -5.7%.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the key foreign market for apricots exports from Sri Lanka, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Maldives ($X), with a 9.4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United Arab Emirates amounted to -4.5%.

In 2022, the average apricot export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -14.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 333% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Imports into Sri Lanka

Apricot imports into Sri Lanka surged to X tons in 2022, increasing by 155% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 2,007% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, apricot imports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 1,584%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest apricot supplier to Sri Lanka, with a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, apricot imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), twofold. Australia (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.7% share.
