Exports from Sri Lanka

In 2022, overseas shipments of argon decreased by -79.2% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 94%. The exports peaked at X cubic meters in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, argon exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a sharp descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 146% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Maldives (X cubic meters) was the main destination for argon exports from Sri Lanka, with a approx. 100% share of total exports.

Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 128% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Saudi Arabia (X cubic meters), the United Arab Emirates (X cubic meters) and Singapore (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of argon imports to Sri Lanka, together comprising 98% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +18.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest argon suppliers to Sri Lanka were Saudi Arabia ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Singapore ($X), with a combined 98% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
