India (X tons) was the main destination for barbed wire exports from Sri Lanka, with a approx. 99% share of total exports.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 448% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, barbed wire imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 447%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of barbed wire to Sri Lanka, accounting for a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, barbed wire imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Japan (X tons), with a 6.4% share.
