Bentonite Market Size in Sri Lanka

After two years of growth, the Sri Lankan bentonite market decreased by -X% to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a resilient expansion. Sri Lanka exports peaked at X tons in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2019, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bentonite exports skyrocketed to $X in 2019. Overall, exports showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2019, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2019, India (X tons), distantly followed by the U.S. (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Italy (X tons) and China (X tons) were the largest exporters of bentonite, together constituting X% of total exports. Slovakia (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Greece (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2019, the biggest increases were in Greece, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest bentonite supplying countries from Sri Lanka were the U.S. ($X), Turkey ($X) and India ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Turkey saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sri Lanka imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2019, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bentonite imports shrank significantly to $X in 2019. Overall, imports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Sri Lanka imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2019, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2019, Germany (X tons), Canada (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Poland (X tons), Russia (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), the UK (X tons), Japan (X tons) and France (X tons) represented the major importer of bentonite in the world, creating X% of total import. Italy (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2007 to 2019, the biggest increases were in Thailand, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Canada ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2019, together comprising X% of total imports. Japan, Thailand, France, the UK, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Russia, Malaysia and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2019, the bentonite import price in Sri Lanka amounted to $X per ton, rising by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2019, import prices failed to regain the momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
