In general, imports continue to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 123% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sulphite wood pulp imports reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 113% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the United States (X tons) was the main supplier of sulphite wood pulp to Sri Lanka, accounting for a approx. 100% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States stood at -4.4%.

In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chemical wood pulp (sulphite, other than dissolving grades) to Sri Lanka.
