Sweden (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) were the main destinations of common pottery exports from Sri Lanka, with a combined 48% share of total exports.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 21%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Common pottery imports into Sri Lanka shrank remarkably to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -50.4% on 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 254%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, common pottery imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 283% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, China (X tons) was the main common pottery supplier to Sri Lanka, accounting for a 94% share of total imports. Moreover, common pottery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 0.6% share.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of common pottery to Sri Lanka, comprising 96% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 2.7% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 0.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled -2.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (-0.5% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-8.9% per year).

In 2022, the average common pottery import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 134% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed notable growth. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
