Desktop Computer Market Size in Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankan desktop computer market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after four years of decline. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 392%. The exports peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, desktop computer exports contracted sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt contraction. Exports by Country

Maldives (X units) was the main destination for desktop computer exports from Sri Lanka, with a 93% share of total exports. Moreover, desktop computer exports to Maldives exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ethiopia (X units), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Maldives totaled -11.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ethiopia (+8.0% per year) and Oman (-75.7% per year).

In value terms, Maldives ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for desktop computers exports from Sri Lanka, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ethiopia ($X), with a 4.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with a 0.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Maldives amounted to -14.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ethiopia (-2.9% per year) and Oman (-85.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average desktop computer export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ethiopia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Oman ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of desktop computers increased by 68% to X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. In general, total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, desktop computer imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

China (X units), Malaysia (X units) and France (X units) were the main suppliers of desktop computer imports to Sri Lanka, together accounting for 90% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +123.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Malaysia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the largest desktop computer suppliers to Sri Lanka, together comprising 87% of total imports. France, Singapore, South Korea, Canada, Australia and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.

France, with a CAGR of +114.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average desktop computer import price amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -8.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 22%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while the price for Canada ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
