Imports into Sri Lanka
In 2021, imports of furnace burners, mechanical stokers, mechanical grates and mechanical ash dischargers into Sri Lanka rose sharply to X tons, increasing by 12% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 532% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, furnace burner imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 471%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of furnace burner to Sri Lanka, accounting for a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, furnace burner imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (X tons), with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to -3.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+21.7% per year) and Thailand (+17.3% per year).
In value terms, Thailand ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X) constituted the largest furnace burner suppliers to Sri Lanka, together accounting for 51% of total imports. Malaysia, India, Singapore, Germany, Israel and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
Among the main suppliers, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +16.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average furnace burner import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 30% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 39%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
