In general, exports recorded a deep slump. The smallest decline of -85.7% was in 2015. The exports peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, industrial robot exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 9,316% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) also remains the key foreign market for industrial robots for multiple uses exports from Sri Lanka.

Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, industrial robot imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 202% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

China (X units), Turkey (X units) and Japan (X units) were the main suppliers of industrial robot imports to Sri Lanka, with a combined 69% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +27.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Japan ($X), China ($X) and the UK ($X) appeared to be the largest industrial robot suppliers to Sri Lanka, with a combined 50% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkey, Taiwan (Chinese), Italy, Denmark, Canada, Malaysia and Switzerland, which together accounted for a further 24%.

In 2021, the average industrial robot import price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -3.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 17% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the price for Malaysia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
