The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 132% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Belgium (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main suppliers of monoethanolamine imports to Sri Lanka, together accounting for 59% of total imports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, India, the United States, the UK, Germany and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 32%.
