In general, imports, however, saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 83%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 73%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures imports to Sri Lanka, with a combined 50% share of total imports. China, Singapore, South Korea, Kuwait and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Kuwait (with a CAGR of +57.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a mild expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 39%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
