As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-numerically controlled lathe imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 171% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Japan (X units) constituted the largest non-numerically controlled lathe supplier to Sri Lanka, with a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, non-numerically controlled lathe imports from Japan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (X units), fivefold. China (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Japan amounted to +8.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+4.8% per year) and China (0.0% per year).
In value terms, the largest non-numerically controlled lathe suppliers to Sri Lanka were Japan ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 50% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), the UK, India, Malaysia, Singapore and France, which together accounted for a further 23%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +21.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average non-numerically controlled lathe import price amounted to $X per unit, declining by -26.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 116% against the previous year.
