The exports peaked at X cubic meters in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, particle board exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

India (X cubic meters), the UK (X cubic meters) and Canada (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of particle board exports from Sri Lanka, with a combined 99% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the UK (with a CAGR of +229.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the UK ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for particle board exports from Sri Lanka, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 7.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the UK stood at +400.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+5.6% per year) and Canada (0.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average particle board export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, growing by 146% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw significant growth. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Maldives ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+51.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Sri Lanka
In 2022, approx. X cubic meters of particle board were imported into Sri Lanka; with a decrease of -33.4% on 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 80% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2021, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, particle board imports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 100%. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of particle board to Sri Lanka, with a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, particle board imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X cubic meters), twofold. Thailand (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India amounted to +45.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-5.3% per year) and Thailand (+25.5% per year).
In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of particle board to Sri Lanka, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from India amounted to +48.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-5.3% per year) and Thailand (+30.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average particle board import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, growing by 13% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 14%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were China ($X per cubic meter) and Thailand ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Malaysia ($X per cubic meter) and India ($X per cubic meter) were amongst the lowest.
