For the sixth year in a row, the Sri Lankan photographic paper market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -40.6% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption saw a deep reduction. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Sri Lanka
In 2021, photographic paper exports from Sri Lanka soared to X square meters, jumping by 147% on 2020 figures. Overall, exports posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 164%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, photographic paper exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a strong expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
India (X square meters) was the main destination for photographic paper exports from Sri Lanka, with a 88% share of total exports. Moreover, photographic paper exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bangladesh (X square meters), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Haiti (X square meters), with a 2.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to India stood at +9.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bangladesh (+148.3% per year) and Haiti (+100.0% per year).
In value terms, India ($X) remains the key foreign market for photographic paper, paperboard and textiles exports from Sri Lanka, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bangladesh ($X), with a 7.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Maldives, with a 4.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to India totaled +17.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bangladesh (+79.0% per year) and Maldives (+28.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average photographic paper export price amounted to $X per square meter, shrinking by -3.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 93% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per square meter in 2020, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Maldives ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Haiti ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Maldives (+17.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Sri Lanka
Photographic paper imports into Sri Lanka shrank sharply to X square meters in 2021, falling by -37.2% compared with the previous year. In general, imports recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, photographic paper imports declined significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a dramatic shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 12%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X square meters), the United States (X square meters) and China (X square meters) were the main suppliers of photographic paper imports to Sri Lanka, with a combined 73% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the UK, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 24%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +11.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the UK ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and the United States ($X) constituted the largest photographic paper suppliers to Sri Lanka, together comprising 68% of total imports.
The UK, with a CAGR of -6.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average photographic paper import price amounted to $X per square meter, waning by -10.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price faced a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 15%. The import price peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per square meter), while the price for China ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
