In value terms, pigeon peas exports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 3,194% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Singapore (X tons), Australia (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of pigeon peas exports from Sri Lanka, together comprising 77% of total exports.

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of pigeon peas, when their volume decreased by -71.8% to X tons. Overall, imports faced a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 270%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pigeon peas imports fell dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 555% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Myanmar (X tons), India (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main suppliers of pigeon peas imports to Sri Lanka, with a combined 100% share of total imports.
