Ethiopia (X tons), Maldives (X tons) and Kenya (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic self-adhesive plate exports from Sri Lanka, with a combined 59% share of total exports. India, Bangladesh, Jordan, Indonesia, Egypt, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Cambodia and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.

Based on 2022 figures, plastic self-adhesive plate export price increased by +24.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 82% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cambodia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Maldives ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -17.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 35%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic self-adhesive plate imports reached $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +24.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of plastic self-adhesive plate to Sri Lanka, accounting for a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic self-adhesive plate imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by India (X tons), with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +7.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-9.2% per year) and India (+16.8% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of plastic self-adhesive plates, sheets and other flat shapes to Sri Lanka, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +9.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+14.5% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average plastic self-adhesive plate import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
