The United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the main destination for plum and sloe exports from Sri Lanka, accounting for a 60% share of total exports. Moreover, plum and sloe exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kuwait (X kg), threefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United Arab Emirates stood at +30.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kuwait (+24.3% per year) and Maldives (+38.7% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for plum and sloe exported from Sri Lanka were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Maldives ($X) and Kuwait ($X), together accounting for 99% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +37.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Sri Lanka
In 2022, approx. X tons of plums and sloes were imported into Sri Lanka; reducing by -89.6% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a dramatic setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 261% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plum and sloe imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a sharp downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 116% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the main plum and sloe supplier to Sri Lanka, with a 99% share of total imports. It was followed by China (X kg), with a 1.1% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United Arab Emirates stood at +9.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-32.2% per year) and Italy (-33.7% per year).
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of plums and sloes to Sri Lanka, comprising 99% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 1.1% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United Arab Emirates amounted to +13.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-26.7% per year) and Italy (-35.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
