Overall, exports showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 189% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, quilted textile products exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 122% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
India (X tons) was the main destination for quilted textile products exports from Sri Lanka, accounting for a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, quilted textile products exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Thailand (X tons), fivefold. Indonesia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to India stood at +15.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+1,387.1% per year) and Indonesia (+27.4% per year).
In value terms, India ($X) remains the key foreign market for quilted textile products in the piece (excluding embroidery) exports from Sri Lanka, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 5.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to India totaled +8.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+27.4% per year) and Vietnam (+52.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average quilted textile products export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (-0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Sri Lanka
In 2021, quilted textile products imports into Sri Lanka skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 80% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 109% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, quilted textile products imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 108% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) was the main quilted textile products supplier to Sri Lanka, accounting for a 92% share of total imports. Moreover, quilted textile products imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Estonia (X tons), more than tenfold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +22.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Estonia (+33.7% per year) and Italy (+8.3% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of quilted textile products in the piece (excluding embroidery) to Sri Lanka, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Estonia ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +17.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Estonia (+60.9% per year) and Italy (+5.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average quilted textile products import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -24% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 71%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
