In value terms, radar apparatus exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a sharp downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 205%. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

India (X units) was the main destination for radar apparatus exports from Sri Lanka, accounting for a 74% share of total exports. Moreover, radar apparatus exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Singapore (X units), sixfold. Oman (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to India totaled +20.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (-25.7% per year) and Oman (0.0% per year).

In value terms, India ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for radar apparatus, radio navigational aid apparatus and radio remote control apparatus exports from Sri Lanka, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with a 6.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to India amounted to +15.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (-25.1% per year) and Oman (0.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average radar apparatus export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 191% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+57.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Sri Lanka

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of radar apparatus, radio navigational aid apparatus and radio remote control apparatus decreased by -49% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, radar apparatus imports declined sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

Slovenia (X units), the United States (X units) and India (X units) were the main suppliers of radar apparatus imports to Sri Lanka, together comprising 74% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Slovenia (with a CAGR of +189.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest radar apparatus suppliers to Sri Lanka were the United States ($X), India ($X) and Slovenia ($X), together accounting for 79% of total imports. France, China, Belgium, Italy, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Taiwan (Chinese), Singapore, the UK and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a measured increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 76% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
