As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

Exports from Sri Lanka
In 2021, exports of rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products from Sri Lanka soared to X tons, rising by 111% against the year before. Overall, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 710% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, rusks and toasted bread exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 719%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Oman (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Australia (X tons) were the main destinations of rusks and toasted bread exports from Sri Lanka, together comprising 75% of total exports. Japan, Canada, the UK, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Maldives lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +97.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for rusks and toasted bread exported from Sri Lanka were the United States ($X), Oman ($X) and the UK ($X), with a combined 70% share of total exports.
The United States, with a CAGR of +109.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average rusks and toasted bread export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -6.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw notable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 49% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+18.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Sri Lanka
In 2021, the amount of rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products imported into Sri Lanka reduced markedly to X tons, with a decrease of -61.5% compared with 2020. In general, imports continue to indicate a precipitous setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 254% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, rusks and toasted bread imports dropped notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a precipitous setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 204%. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Oman (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X kg) were the main suppliers of rusks and toasted bread imports to Sri Lanka, with a combined 99% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +52.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, Oman ($X) constituted the largest supplier of rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products to Sri Lanka, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 13% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Oman amounted to +2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+52.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-44.5% per year).

In 2021, the average rusks and toasted bread import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -16.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 55% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then plummeted in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+16.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
