In value terms, synthetic filament tow exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a dramatic contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 48% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons), India (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of synthetic filament tow exports from Sri Lanka, with a combined 94% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in China (with a CAGR of +24.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, India ($X) remains the key foreign market for synthetic filament tow exports from Sri Lanka, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with an 8.4% share.

In value terms, synthetic filament tow imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a notable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 144% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
