Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wood chips, particles and residues exports fell significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a sharp setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Germany (X kg), Poland (X kg) and Ukraine (X kg) were the main destinations of wood chips, particles and residues exports from Sri Lanka, together comprising X% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for wood chips, particles and residues exported from Sri Lanka were Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and Ukraine ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports. Over the period under review, the export price showed a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2020, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Sri Lanka
For the fourth year in a row, Sri Lanka recorded decline in purchases abroad of wood chips, particles and residues, which decreased by -X% to X kg in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X%. Imports peaked at X kg in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wood chips, particles and residues imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The import price peaked in 2020 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
