In 2021, the Sudanese breakfast cereal market decreased by -9.7% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a remarkable increase. Breakfast cereal consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

The United Arab Emirates (X kg) was the main destination for breakfast cereal exports from Sudan, with a 97% share of total exports. Moreover, breakfast cereal exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Seychelles (X kg), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United Arab Emirates was relatively modest.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for breakfast cereal exports from Sudan, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Seychelles ($X), with a 9.1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of value to the United Arab Emirates was relatively modest.

In 2018, the average breakfast cereal export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -3.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 28% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Seychelles ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (-22.8%).

Imports into Sudan
In 2021, approx. X tons of breakfast cereals were imported into Sudan; with an increase of 49% on 2020 figures. In general, imports recorded buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 146% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, breakfast cereal imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 125%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Italy (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of breakfast cereal imports to Sudan, with a combined 82% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Egypt (with a CAGR of +89.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest breakfast cereal suppliers to Sudan were Egypt ($X), Italy ($X) and the UK ($X), together comprising 84% of total imports.
