Moreover, cow peas exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), threefold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 13% share.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for cow peas (dry) exports from Sudan, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by India, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Saudi Arabia stood at +42.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-7.4% per year) and India (-13.8% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 177% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cow peas imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 224% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Uganda (X tons) was the main supplier of cow peas to Sudan, accounting for a 92% share of total imports. Moreover, cow peas imports from Uganda exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ethiopia (X tons), more than tenfold. Egypt (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Uganda amounted to -11.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ethiopia (-29.8% per year) and Egypt (-28.3% per year).
In value terms, Uganda ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cow peas (dry) to Sudan, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with a 3.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Ethiopia, with a 0.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Uganda stood at +3.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (-15.0% per year) and Ethiopia (-32.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average cow peas import price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -3.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 48% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the price for Ethiopia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
