Domestic Appliances Market Size in Sudan

After two years of growth, the Sudanese domestic appliances market decreased by -11.5% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +59.7% against 2018 indices. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then fell in the following year.

Exports from Sudan

In 2021, the amount of domestic appliances exported from Sudan surged to X units, jumping by 28% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 67%. The exports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, domestic appliances exports fell markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 357%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Rwanda (X units) was the main destination for domestic appliances exports from Sudan, with a 325% share of total exports. Moreover, domestic appliances exports to Rwanda exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tanzania (X units), fivefold. Uzbekistan (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 28% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Rwanda totaled +64.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tanzania (+73.1% per year) and Uzbekistan (0.0% per year).

In value terms, Rwanda ($X) remains the key foreign market for domestic appliances exports from Sudan, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Ethiopia, with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Rwanda stood at +22.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (0.0% per year) and Ethiopia (+3.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average domestic appliances export price amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -38.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 213%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+23.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Sudan

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of domestic appliances, when their volume decreased by -23.6% to X units. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2020, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, domestic appliances imports declined to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +88.5% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 39%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest domestic appliances supplier to Sudan, accounting for a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, domestic appliances imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X units), threefold. Egypt (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +1.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+7.9% per year) and Egypt (+7.2% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Egypt ($X) constituted the largest domestic appliances suppliers to Sudan, with a combined 58% share of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Egypt, with a CAGR of +20.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average domestic appliances import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, domestic appliances import price increased by +28.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
