Plastic Furniture Market Size in Sudan

In 2021, the Sudanese plastic furniture market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 259% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic furniture exports fell sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a mild increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 380% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Ethiopia (X units) was the main destination for plastic furniture exports from Sudan, with a 67% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic furniture exports to Ethiopia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Burkina Faso (X units), twofold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Ethiopia amounted to -4.0%.

In value terms, Ethiopia ($X) remains the key foreign market for plastic furniture exports from Sudan, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Burkina Faso ($X), with a 20% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Ethiopia amounted to -1.4%.

In 2021, the average plastic furniture export price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 96%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Ethiopia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Burkina Faso totaled $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ethiopia (+2.7%).

In 2021, approx. X units of furniture of plastic were imported into Sudan; which is down by -40.9% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 316% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic furniture imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 366%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of plastic furniture to Sudan, accounting for a 44% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic furniture imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Uganda (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Egypt (X units), with a 9.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +3.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uganda (-18.8% per year) and Egypt (+35.0% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of plastic furniture to Sudan, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uganda ($X), with an 8.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Jordan, with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +16.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uganda (-18.2% per year) and Jordan (+22.9% per year).

The average plastic furniture import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, plastic furniture import price increased by +65.3% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 61%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+16.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
