In 2022, the Sudanese grape market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. Grape consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Sudan
In 2022, the amount of grapes exported from Sudan dropped markedly to X kg, with a decrease of -60% on the previous year. In general, exports recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 2,345%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, grape exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a dramatic slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 1,090%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The United Arab Emirates (X kg) was the main destination for grape exports from Sudan, with a 94% share of total exports. Moreover, grape exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bosnia and Herzegovina (X kg), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United Arab Emirates totaled -1.9%.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the key foreign market for grapes exports from Sudan, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X), with a 15% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United Arab Emirates amounted to +9.5%.
Export Prices by Country
The average grape export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 35% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 118%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Sudan
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of grapes, when their volume increased by 13% to X tons. In general, imports, however, saw a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 86% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, grape imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 65% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Egypt (X tons), Lebanon (X tons) and Chile (X tons) were the main suppliers of grape imports to Sudan, together accounting for 85% of total imports. Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +20.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Egypt ($X) constituted the largest supplier of grapes to Sudan, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Lebanon, with an 8.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Egypt amounted to -1.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+19.3% per year) and Lebanon (-13.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average grape import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -12.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, grape import price increased by +43.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+14.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
