Green Peas Market Size in Sudan

For the fifth year in a row, the Sudanese green peas market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 8.1% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a deep slump. Green peas consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the main destination for green peas exports from Sudan, accounting for a approx. 100% share of total exports.

In 2022, Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main green peas supplier to Sudan, with a 91% share of total imports. Moreover, green peas imports from Saudi Arabia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Uganda (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 3.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Saudi Arabia totaled +12.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uganda (-39.9% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+19.5% per year).

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of peas (green) to Sudan, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 6.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Saudi Arabia stood at +5.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+19.6% per year) and Egypt (+5.7% per year).

The average green peas import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -35.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 118% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the price for Uganda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+11.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
