Ethiopia (X litres) was the main destination for soft drink exports from Sudan, with a approx. 99% share of total exports.

Imports into Sudan
In 2021, purchases abroad of soft drinks decreased by -12.8% to X litres, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports saw a dramatic decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X litres. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, soft drink imports contracted notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a dramatic decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X litres), Uganda (X litres) and Cyprus (X litres) were the main suppliers of soft drink imports to Sudan, together comprising 76% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Saudi Arabia, Spain and the UK, which together accounted for a further 19%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the UK (with a CAGR of +34.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of soft drink to Sudan, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uganda ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Cyprus, with a 9.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United Arab Emirates amounted to -9.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uganda (-32.6% per year) and Cyprus (+14.8% per year).

The average soft drink import price stood at $X per litre in 2021, dropping by -29.5% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, soft drink import price increased by +56.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 123% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per litre, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per litre), while the price for Uganda ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+11.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
