For the fifth year in a row, Sweden recorded growth in overseas purchases of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers, which increased by 13% to X units in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Denmark (X units) constituted the largest supplier of aluminium cask, drum, can, box and similar container to Sweden, with a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Denmark exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X units), fivefold. France (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Denmark stood at +20.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+72.1% per year) and France (+69.8% per year).

The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Denmark stood at +12.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+69.8% per year) and Poland (+78.8% per year).

In general, the import price, however, showed a pronounced slump. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while the price for Finland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
