In value terms, gypsum, anhydrite and limestone exports rose modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 40% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Finland (X tons) was the main destination for gypsum, anhydrite and limestone exports from Sweden, accounting for a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, gypsum, anhydrite and limestone exports to Finland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), sixfold. Latvia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Finland amounted to -1.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+5.6% per year) and Latvia (+4.8% per year).
In value terms, Finland ($X) remains the key foreign market for gypsum, anhydrite and limestone exports from Sweden, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Latvia ($X), with a 2.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 2.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Finland amounted to -4.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Latvia (+6.2% per year) and Germany (-12.8% per year).

The average gypsum, anhydrite and limestone export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -6.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Sweden
For the third consecutive year, Sweden recorded decline in supplies from abroad of gypsum, anhydrite and limestone, which decreased by -0.8% to X tons in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -9.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, gypsum, anhydrite and limestone imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +17.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 52%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

France (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of gypsum, anhydrite and limestone imports to Sweden, with a combined 84% share of total imports. The UK, Norway and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Finland (with a CAGR of +100.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest gypsum, anhydrite and limestone suppliers to Sweden were France ($X), Germany ($X) and Spain ($X), with a combined 62% share of total imports. The UK, Norway and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.
Among the main suppliers, Finland, with a CAGR of +93.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average gypsum, anhydrite and limestone import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 15% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
