Drawing Chalk Market Size in Sweden

The Swedish drawing chalk market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced descent. Drawing chalk consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Overall, total exports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +123.4% against 2017 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, drawing chalk exports rose markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Norway (X units), Finland (X units) and Denmark (X units) were the main destinations of drawing chalk exports from Sweden, with a combined 85% share of total exports. The Netherlands, Poland, the UK and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +15.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Norway amounted to +7.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (+4.0% per year) and Finland (-10.8% per year).

Overall, imports, however, saw a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, drawing chalk imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of drawing chalk to Sweden, with a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, drawing chalk imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Denmark (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Malaysia (X units), with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +3.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Denmark (+5.3% per year) and Malaysia (+8.7% per year).

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +6.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Denmark (+6.2% per year) and Germany (+0.8% per year).
