After three years of growth, overseas purchases of sugars, sugar ethers and salts decreased by -2.7% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 122%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sugars imports reduced remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 92% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons), France (X tons) and Denmark (X tons) were the main suppliers of sugars imports to Sweden, together comprising 77% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +86.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
