Norway (X tons) was the main destination for sulphites exports from Sweden, with a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphites exports to Norway exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Denmark (X tons), more than tenfold. The average sulphites export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 30% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Sulphites imports into Sweden rose significantly to X tons in 2022, picking up by 13% on 2021. Overall, imports showed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 72% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sulphites imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Finland (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of sulphites to Sweden, accounting for a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphites imports from Finland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), threefold.
