Vegetable Product Market Size in Sweden
The Swedish vegetable product market soared to $X in 2022, increasing by 38% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. After two years of growth, overseas shipments of vegetable products decreased by -59.7% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 121% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.
In value terms, vegetable product exports fell notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 130% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Denmark (X tons) was the main destination for vegetable product exports from Sweden, with a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, vegetable product exports to Denmark exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Finland (X tons), twofold. Norway (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Denmark totaled +15.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Finland (+21.3% per year) and Norway (-9.2% per year).
In value terms, Norway ($X), Denmark ($X) and Finland ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for vegetable product exported from Sweden worldwide, together accounting for 91% of total exports. Latvia, Germany and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 7.7%.
Romania, with a CAGR of +32.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average vegetable product export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 44% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, vegetable product export price increased by +153.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 76%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Norway (+19.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Sweden
In 2022, imports of vegetable products into Sweden skyrocketed to X tons, growing by 24% on 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 51%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, vegetable product imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +75.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest vegetable product supplier to Sweden, accounting for a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, vegetable product imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), threefold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey totaled -5.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+9.4% per year) and the United States (+72.5% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vegetable products to Sweden, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with an 8.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey totaled -1.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+6.5% per year) and India (+15.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average vegetable product import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -2.2% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, vegetable product import price increased by +49.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 50%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+20.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
