Wallpaper Market Size in Sweden

In 2021, the Swedish wallpaper market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year declining trend. In general, consumption continues to indicate a perceptible decline. Wallpaper consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

For the third consecutive year, Sweden recorded growth in shipments abroad of wallpaper and wall coverings, which increased by 16% to X tons in 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 23%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, wallpaper exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a remarkable increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Norway (X tons) was the main destination for wallpaper exports from Sweden, accounting for a 40% share of total exports. Moreover, wallpaper exports to Norway exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X tons), fourfold. Finland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.5% share.

In 2021, the average wallpaper export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 33%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

After five years of decline, supplies from abroad of wallpaper and wall coverings increased by 4.3% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wallpaper imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep downturn. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Poland (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of wallpaper imports to Sweden, together accounting for 83% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +6.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
