In 2021, the Swedish wooden window market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a perceptible setback. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wooden window exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 31%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. Norway (X tons) was the main destination for wooden window exports from Sweden, accounting for a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, wooden window exports to Norway exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X tons), fivefold. Japan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.6% share.

In value terms, Norway ($X) remains the key foreign market for wooden window exports from Sweden, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Norway was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+3.6% per year) and Japan (-2.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average wooden window export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, wooden window export price increased by +59.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 54% against the previous year. Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices to Japan ($X per ton) and the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Finland ($X per ton) and Norway ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Finland (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of windows, french windows and their frames of wood increased by 17% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +23.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 25%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, wooden window imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest wooden window supplier to Sweden, accounting for a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, wooden window imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Estonia (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Denmark (X tons), with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland stood at +17.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Estonia (+0.9% per year) and Denmark (+11.5% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wooden window to Sweden, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Estonia ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Poland totaled +16.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Estonia (+2.0% per year) and Denmark (+6.4% per year).

In 2021, the average wooden window import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 10% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 12% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
