The Swedish wine market reached $X in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Wine exports from Sweden reached X litres in 2021, growing by 5.7% compared with the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, the average wine export price amounted to $X per litre, growing by 7.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per litre. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Finland ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

In general, total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +47.1% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 29%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X litres, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, wine imports reached $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Italy (X litres), France (X litres) and Spain (X litres) were the main suppliers of wine imports to Sweden, with a combined 53% share of total imports. South Africa, Germany, Portugal, Denmark, Chile, the United States, Argentina, Australia, Finland and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Finland (with a CAGR of +24.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per litre), while the price for Bulgaria ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
