In value terms, benzoic acid exports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 416% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Germany (X tons), the UK (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of benzoic acid exports from Switzerland, with a combined 62% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Singapore, China, France, Brazil, Italy and Poland, which together accounted for a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +35.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +52.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons.
