For the third consecutive year, the Swiss bridge market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 2.7% to $X in 2021. In general, the total consumption indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +66.0% against 2018 indices. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+14.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, the amount of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) imported into Switzerland surged to X tons, picking up by 90% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports recorded strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 229% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, bridge imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 219%. Imports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest bridge supplier to Switzerland, accounting for a 49% share of total imports. Moreover, bridge imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey stood at +47.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+12.1% per year) and Germany (-1.4% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) to Switzerland, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey amounted to +35.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+11.9% per year) and Germany (+2.1% per year).

In 2021, the average bridge import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 5.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 36% against the previous year. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
