Crane Market Size in Switzerland

In 2022, the Swiss crane market increased by 53% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, showed a perceptible decrease. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, overseas shipments of derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames, straddle carriers and work trucks fitted with a crane decreased by -12.6% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, crane exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a remarkable increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Germany (X units), the UK (X units) and Portugal (X units) were the main destinations of crane exports from Switzerland, together accounting for 55% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the UK (with a CAGR of +99.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 29%. Imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crane imports reached $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In 2022, Germany (X units) constituted the largest crane supplier to Switzerland, accounting for a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, crane imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X units), twofold.
